Candidates who pass their NHA exam will need to renew their certification every two years (unless it is a provisional certification) in order to keep their credential current. The following continuing education requirements for recertification
NHA Certification Renewal CE Requirements (excluding CPhT)
- Complete 10 CE credits (2 hours of continuing education = 1 NHA continuing education credit).
- NHA Members have free access to NHA's full Continuing Education library included in their membership fees (excludes specialty CE). Click here to join the NHA membership and unlock free CE. If you're already a member, follow this link for how to access CE.
- Non-members have access to a select number of NHA CE courses at no charge; all other courses are available for purchase
NHA CPhT Certification Renewal CE Requirements:
Because of the rapid changes in health care, new drug treatments, and technology, pharmacy technicians must keep up to date. Your NHA CPhT certification must be renewed every 2 years to stay current. It costs $55 every two years to renew your certification with NHA. During the two-year period prior to recertification, certified pharmacy technicians must:
- Participate in at least 20 hours of continuing education (CE)
- At least one hour of the 20 hours must be in Pharmacy Law
- At least one hour of the 20 hours must be in Patient Safety

Before completing NHA CE, certificate holders should check the rules or regulations of the licensing or regulatory agency of their state. NHA generally accepts CE from other sources; if you have a question about a specific course, please contact NHA.
