How to Ask Your Employer to Reimburse NHA One™
Your employer may offer to help cover educational, professional development, or certification-related expenses, including your NHA One™ certification maintenance plan.
NHA One™ is your all-in-one certification maintenance plan, which offers free unlimited continuing education (CE), recertification*, job board, virtual community, professional development content, exclusive discounts, and more! Some allied health employers cover CE, certification, and/or professional development resources. Because every employer's benefits and reimbursement process are different, the best way to find out is to ask! Not sure how to start the conversation? Follow these steps:
Step 1: Start with your manager.
Your manager is a good first point of contact. They may be able to tell you whether your organization offers reimbursement or direct you to Human Resources (HR) or another team that manages employee benefits.
You can keep the conversation simple: "Does our organization reimburse for certification maintenance, continuing education, or professional development expenses? I use NHA One to help maintain my NHA certification, complete CE, and grow in my career. I'd like to see if I may qualify for employer reimbursement."
Step 2: Explain what you're asking them to support.
“NHA One helps me maintain my NHA certification and gives me access to continuing education and other professional resources. I'd like to find out whether my employer benefits can help cover the cost.”
This distinction is important. We advise that you make it clear NHA One is a certification maintenance plan, not a membership, since employer feedback indicates certification-related expenses are treated much differently.
Step 3: Ask how your employer's process works.
If reimbursement is available, ask what you need to do next. Questions you might ask include:
-
Do certification maintenance or continuing education expenses qualify?
-
Is there a specific form or approval process I need to follow?
-
Do I need approval before I make a payment?
-
What documentation do you need from me?
-
Who should I contact if I have questions about the benefit?
Step 4: Have your NHA One information ready to share.
If you've already paid for NHA One, keep your receipt handy. NHA One users receive a receipt after payment that can be printed or saved as a PDF and may be useful when submitting a reimbursement request.
Step 5: Don't be afraid to ask.
You don't have to know your employer's reimbursement policy before starting this conversation. That's what you're trying to find out! A simple question like, "Does our organization offer reimbursement for certification maintenance, continuing education, or professional development?" is enough to get the conversation started.
Even if your employer ultimately doesn't offer reimbursement, you can still use the benefits available through NHA One to support your certification and professional goals.
